Overview:

Latta Nature Preserve with Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation in Charlotte, NC is seeking summer program help for its brand new 13,000 ft2 Quest facility. This position will assist with nature day camps for children ages 4-13. No experience required, just enthusiasm and a desire to work with kids!

Position details: Latta Nature Preserve with Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation in Charlotte, NC is seeking program help for its new 13,000 ft2 Quest facility. This position will assist with nature day camps for children ages 4-13. Employment is May through Labor Day, 35-40 hours per week at $11.10/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with summer day camp, environmental education, and outdoor adventure programs to include:
    • Managing groups of children ages 4-13
    • Creating a positive environment and being a good role model for campers
    • hiking, canoeing, and other physically demanding activities
    • working long hours outdoors in summer weather
  • Assist with the care and feeding of exhibit and program animals.
  • Assist with customer service duties including answering visitor questions and working the cash register.
  • Work some weekends, evenings, and holidays as assigned.
  • Assist with special events, garden maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a strong desire to work with children in an outdoor setting and be able to hike 3-5 miles on unpaved trails. They should have completed or be presently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: natural/environmental sciences, environmental education, recreation, or related field. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.

Preferred Qualifications: Current first aid and CPR certification is preferred. Knowledge and experience delivering outdoor education programs is a plus.
