The Summer Camp Guide position is an ideal opportunity for undergraduate students, recent college graduates, and early-career educators with interest and experience in science and education. It is a great opportunity for professional growth and to gain valuable experience in teaching STEM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Passion to teach and inspire young people in sciences and enthusiastic to serve as a role model and mentor.
- Develop an understanding of, and the ability to implement camp programs in a fun, interactive, hands-on environment that actively engages participants.
- Present programs in an engaging and professional way while supplying accurate scientific information.
- Manage a camp environment for participants’ well being; including safety, and expectations of behaviors.
- Skilled at working independently in front of a group and collaboratively with a team of educators.
- Act responsibly with material management including appropriate set-up, clean-up, and storage.
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching and/or working with children in formal or informal learning environments using creative methods of teaching.
- Energized and excited to share the experience of science with children entering Pre-K through 12th grades.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and strong customer service skills.
- A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly on one's feet.
- Committed to working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with adequate break time.
- Available for staff training May 29-June 8 and for summer camp June 11-August 17 (priority selection for those committed to working the entire summer / partial summer schedules may be available)
