Overview:

Do you have an interest in working with young, curious learners, and inspiring the next generation of critical thinkers?  Being a CuriOdyssey STEM Day Camp Director may be the position for you.  Collaborating with campers sparking excitement, curiosity and exploration through child-centric experiences are how a STEM Day Camp Director inspires a love for science and curiosity about the world.

About CuriOdyssey and Our Camp Program:

CuriOdyssey is a serious science playground providing diverse learners engaging ways to explore the world.  Sparking the natural curiosity and imagination of all children, we provide the tools, environment, and opportunity for children to engage with the natural world on an inquisitive journey of lifelong learning.

Camp CuriOdyssey provides camper driven investigations of science and the outdoors, enabling them to develop their ability to think both critically and creatively. Our campers are 4-11 years old and come to us with varied learning abilities.  Camp groups are small to ensure that campers enjoy personal, rich explorations of the world.

Role of a STEM Day Camp Director:

The STEM Day Camp Director along with year-round educators, implement our robust curriculum for our kinder to 4th grade campers.  The Director provides supervision, leadership, and guidance to camp staff, and youth volunteer “Leaders in Training” by sharing the teaching responsibilities, mentoring, and providing constructive feedback.  The Camp Director works to ensure that the day camp program is an environment that empowers campers to question, investigate, and imagine.

For the summer of 2021 we are seeking a Camp Director to oversee our “Nature Quest” camp.  Nature Quest is a new outdoor learning camp combining the most awesome parts of science, nature, and adventure into a rich and fun experience for campers. Campers explore the outdoors to discover the forces that shape our earth and follow individual curiosities while adventuring in Coyote Point Park.  The goal is to create an authentic, inquiry based, immersive, and student driven learning environment tailored to the child’s learning needs and with great respect for the identity, cultural background and lived experiences of each learner.

Responsibilities of a STEM Day Camp Director:

The STEM Day Camp Director facilitates the “Nature Quest” camp activities, engaging campers in distinctive educational experiences.

  • Directors must be able to understand and alter camp content in alignment with CuriOdyssey’s approach and to meet campers’ diverse learning styles.
  • Directors supervise and guide camp staff (Leaders, and/or Leaders-in-Training), ensuring that campers have a safe and fun learning environment.  This includes participating in the pre-camp training, maintaining open communication with all camp staff, and providing timely feedback on performance.
  • Proactively communicate with a camper’s parent/guardian about the exciting camp activities, the camper’s involvement in camp, and/or camp’s policies and procedures.
  • Like in most every other job, projects and tasks arise that may be delegated or taken on by the Day Camp Director, such as providing support to other camps.

Who We Are Seeking as a STEM Day Camp Director:

The STEM Day Camp Director for CuriOdyssey reflects our institutional personality and values.  Someone that is creative, curious, and dynamic is most successful.  An effective Day Camp Director understands how children learn, recognizes that learning is a process not a product, and is committed to making the learning process engaging, fun, and driven by the camper.

The STEM Day Camp Director must have experience and expertise working with youth.  A basic understanding of life, earth and physical science aids in delivering camp curriculum, ensuring it’s being taught with accuracy and to guide and expand on a camper’s inquiries and discoveries.  We seek someone who can demonstrate a growth mindset, a positive attitude towards new experiences and profound respect for children as intelligent learners.
