Overview:

The Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki is seeking a full-time residential Spanish teacher starting August 2021. Responsibilities include teaching honors levels Spanish III-Advanced Placement courses.  Candidates should have a high level of interest in teaching exceptionally motivated high school juniors in a semester school that is committed to promoting the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion; this is more than a commitment; it is at the core of our work throughout Chewonki.  The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who is comfortable using a variety of instructional strategies and enjoys working creatively and collaboratively to develop and plan curricula.

Successful candidates must have a proven record of engaging students in place-based learning, fostering critical reading and writing skills, and inspiring a love of learning.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is in-line with that of other small northern New England boarding schools and will be based largely on experience.  Housing is included as part of living on campus. This is a full-time residential position on an August to mid-June schedule (~10 weeks vacation/year). Benefits include housing, meals when programs are in session, health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, long term disability, 403B retirement plan (currently matching up to 4.5% after one year of service) and access to professional development funds.
