Overview:
This position is the regional point of contact for PEI, managing the implementation of FieldSTEM in their region, responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with school districts, educational leaders, nonformal educators and local professionals to facilitate planning and implementation of FieldSTEM. This is a home or field-based position requiring travel within, but not limited to Mason, Thurston and Lewis Counties. PEI is a statewide organization headquartered in Olympia, Washington.
Primary Responsibilities
Represent PEI in the South Sound Region
- Be a positive ambassador of PEI.
- Work within the mission to implement PEI’s strategic plan goals.
- Provide regional planning, support, and reporting for PEI.
- Attend and contribute to statewide PEI professional learning workshops/opportunities.
- Generate regional media for PEI’s social marketing and outreach efforts.
School District, School Building and Teacher Networking
- Engage districts, schools, and teachers to initiate systemic FieldSTEM implementation.
- Conduct a FieldSTEM assessment annually with districts, schools and teachers to determine implementation status and track progress.
- Facilitate the on-going work of districts and schools to embed FieldSTEM.
- Inform districts and schools about opportunities for field-based science education.
- Engage and recruit district/school/teacher leaders to function as the point of contact for implementation of the FieldSTEM model. Provide support and expertise for these leaders.
Professional Learning and Regional Meeting Coordination
- Coordinate and/or deliver professional learning opportunities in collaboration with PEI Faculty, facilitators, and other staff.
- Facilitate regional meetings to collaborate with teacher leaders, district liaisons, consultants, business, and organization partners around PEI projects.
- Work with PEI Program Director to develop a cadre of FieldSTEM facilitators (teacher leaders, community collaborators) to offer professional learning opportunities.
Community Partner Development
- Conduct and maintain a community asset inventory identifying partners (businesses, NGO’s, federal and state agencies, etc.) that can support the FieldSTEM model in the region.
- Facilitate community collaborator to school connections. Function as the point of contact for community collaborators regarding implementation of FieldSTEM. Provide leadership, assistance and expertise.
- Assist in the development of career-connected learning opportunities for students.
- Assist in the development of field-based learning opportunities for students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience as a formal classroom educator or equivalent lived experience.
- Experience working with and leading adults; skilled in meeting and workshop facilitation.
- Self-directed, takes initiative to follow through on plans and projects.
- Professional, positive, creative, flexible.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Outgoing, committed to education, teachers, and students; works well with all people.
- Experience in and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in education and natural resource fields.
- Up-to-date on current initiatives in education, e.g., Universal Design for Learning, Common Core, NGSS, Washington State Standards, Since Time Immemorial, Environmental and Sustainability Education standards.
- Awareness of key green economy sectors (natural resources, renewable energy, agriculture and food systems, outdoor recreation, environmental conservation).
- Ability to provide own transportation and proof of auto insurance coverage
Wages and Employment Information
This is a 40 hour per week position. Wages are $28.00 - $32.00 per hour dependent on successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. PEI offers a competitive Employee Benefit Plan and includes paid holidays, vacation/sick leave, health, vision, dental, retirement and life insurance benefits.
