TreePeople is determined to engage, empower and support millions of young people to take action to build healthy and equitable communities.

We seek an energetic, passionate, hard-working, entrepreneurial and highly-organized leader to grow our environmental education department centered on environmental literacy and youth leadership. The Senior Manager of Environmental Education will be a key part of TreePeople’s environmental education team, partnering with the Director of Environmental Education to develop new strategies, seek out new funding opportunities, and support and grow current programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support the environmental education (EE) team to execute the vision, goals and deliverables of our current EE programs.
  • Work with the Director of Strategic Planning to develop strategic objectives that are centered around growing TreePeople’s EE department.
  • Build partnerships that strengthen our goals and map to targeted regions identified by TreePeople.
  • Work with the Director of Strategic Planning to identify funding sources for the department and actively fundraise via cultivation of donors, grant writing, etc.
  • Assist with updating our programs and toolkits to align with current academic standards, i.e. Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Assist with assessing our programs to ensure they intentionally integrate equity, inclusion and cultural relevancy.
  • Write reports and communicate with our funders on various deliverables that are being met via our grants.
  • Attend high-level meetings with Director of Strategic Planning that help to advance the goals of the EE department and TreePeople as a whole.
  • Represent TreePeople in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven project management skills such as accountability, time management, prioritizing tasks, and meeting high-pressure deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team.
  • Experience with fundraising and writing grants.
  • Recent, proven experience working with teens and schools, ideally on environmental projects.
  • Community-oriented individual who is adept at mobilizing and prioritizing the needs of a community.
  • Should have an understanding of equity, inclusion and cultural relevancy.
  • Commitment to improving the environment through education. Some background in educational theory and methodology. Background in the Next Generation Science Standards is a plus.
  • An understanding of ecological systems and awareness of current environmental issues, including the impacts of urban development and green solutions.
  • The ability and willingness to visit school sites across L.A. County and communicate school district personnel, administrators, educators, and youth via telephone, email and fax.
  • Must be able to work well both independently and on a team.
  • Strong communication skills that include professional writing, public speaking, and intra-personal communication.
  • High computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and other internet-based programs.
  • Spanish fluency a plus.
  • Experience working in South LA, Southeast LA, and/or Northeast San Fernando Valley a plus.
  • Valid California Driver License and reliable transportation is mandatory.
