Responsibilities: Under general supervision of the Human Resources Manager, is responsible for assessing and meeting Riverbanks’ staffing needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of employees, volunteers, and interns. Assists with the HR processes of interviewing, onboarding, and coordinating various trainings for Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.
- Attracts applicants by placing job advertisements, contacting recruiters, attending job fairs, and utilizing job sites and social media. Serves as a liaison with area employment agencies, colleges, and industry associations.
- Supports the interview process and Riverbanks 101 on-boarding program for Riverbanks staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Responsible for all aspects of the Volunteer/Internship Program including: recruiting, record keeping, budgeting, and retention. Communicates frequently with volunteers/interns to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed and informed of updates and activities within the zoo and garden.
- Develops new ways to recognize and reward volunteer efforts. Organizes the annual volunteer recognition banquet.
- Coordinates teams of volunteers for large-scale actions. Recruits volunteers for special events to include: Wine Tasting, Brew at the Zoo, Boo at the Zoo, Riverbanks Run, and Lights Before Christmas.
- Works in partnership with the events team to ensure special event volunteers are placed and ready to support various areas of event operations. Responsible for volunteer communication, check-in, and general supervision of volunteers at special events.
- Conducts and coordinates additional training for staff and volunteers (First Aid/CPR, Fork Lift Training, new hire tours, etc.).
- Assists with employee communication, administrative support, and employee events.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field, with 2-3 years personnel management experience required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The ideal candidate will show initiative and be able to work independently and efficiently under deadlines, on a variety of tasks and priorities. They will also enjoy working within a collaborative environment and be a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority. Must be able to demonstrate confidentiality, attention to detail, and prompt follow-through. Strong presentation and oral and written communication skills are required in this role. Must be flexible for occasional weekend, holiday and after-hours assignments. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver's license.
