Overview:

Summary:

Nestled on over 240 acres in Philo, California, Blackbird Farm offers students the chance to learn about and experience sustainable living. Across an 11 day stay, students feed and harvest sustainable organic crops (picking much of what they will eat for their meals right from the garden), tend to farm animals, and learn all about healthy eating. With an overall focus on sustainable living, Blackbird Farm participants are encouraged to create raised-bed gardens to maintain back at their school site and homes, and become ambassadors for healthy eating.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Organizes and facilitates respective Pathways in Educations’ program area throughout the year for at-risk high school students.
  • Build relationships with client school staff to create a seamless, open flow of communication between all parties involved.
  • Ensure all documents and program roll out information is up to date and complete.
  • Hire, train and supervise staff who will assist facilitating designated program area.
  • Evaluate staff performance and serve as contact person for problem resolution or guidance.
  • Conduct in-service training programs and supervises new staff development.
  • Perform other functions and duties as assigned.
  • Establish team or cohort connections with assigned Campers.
  • Conduct meetings with students and chaperons daily.
  • Liaison and manage relationship between Pathways and Camp Clients
  • Support Students in Experiential Learning Activities and create a safe environment for them.
  • Facilitate Small Group Discussion and Debrief with students.
  • Set emotional tone for activities.
  • Motivate students throughout the camp process.
  • Serve as point person for any emergency situations
  • Oversee the High Ropes Course and ensure safety precautions are being followed
  • Train and oversee staff members on the High Ropes Course
  • Perform other functions and duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to train, direct and delegate responsibility to staff.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to synergize with colleagues and corporate staff to manage and monitor the growth of the company.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and database management.
  • Supervisory or managerial skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Professional, mature and experienced working with a wide range of populations (experience with both youth and adult clients)
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Supervisory experience at an organized camp
  • At least 1 year experience in a leadership role since turning 18 years old
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Teaching Credential Preferred
