Overview:
Mountain Village School is a nature-based early childhood program in the village of Stowe, Vermont. We are currently looking for a preschool teacher to join us for the 2021-2022 school year. Full-time position, 40 hours per week. We spend a considerable amount of time outside each day.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and implementing curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, open-ended, process-oriented, as well as based on children's interests.
- Teachers manage the classroom effectively with compassion, empathy, attention to detail, and problem-solving strategies. Teachers develop an intentional environment that encourages children’s independence and self-selection of activities. The environment should recognize and celebrate children’s ideas, initiatives, and creativity.
- Regular communication with parents is by means of meetings, newsletters, email, and individual parent conferences.
Education and Experience:
- Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 1 year of classroom experience is required.
- CPR and First Aid certified or be willing to obtain
- Education and/or experience in outdoor education for preschoolers, with deep knowledge of the Northeast ecosystem, is preferred.

- Good knowledge and desire to independently learn about nature, science, and the ecology of Northern New England
- Strong decision-making skills to respond to risk management, emergencies, or difficult situations
- Ability and desire to create place-based, child-centered, emergent curriculum
- Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and roles, patiently and professionally
