Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery School is seeking a Preschool Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The Preschool Teacher will work with our Director and Cooperative Parent Community to create and maintain the high quality, progressive, outdoor education that Rose Scharlin is known for.  We are looking for a motivated and open-minded educator with an unbiased teaching approach and an emphasis on process over product.  The preschool teacher must be a team player who will bring passion, creativity and excitement to the school yard, and an educator who will welcome and support the growth and development of our children and parents. 

Open position begins in August 2021.  Compensation based on education and experience. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Participate in the school day from 8:30am - 1:30pm five days a week when school is in session (approximately twenty seven weeks, from early September to mid-June). 
• Teach our Kindergarten Prep class two to three times per week in the spring semester during school hours.
• Approximately ten to twelve additional hours per week for curriculum planning, meetings, office hours and attendance at school events.
• Work with the Director to plan curriculum activities that encourage emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
• Commitment to the spirit of the cooperative.  Foster supportive relationships with parents through regular communication.
• Understand and assist in compliance with licensing regulations and the cooperative rules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 12 core semester units in Early Childhood Education.
• At least 1 year of work experience teaching preschool-age children.
• Physical ability to interact with children, including: picking up children weighing up to 40 lbs., standing for long periods of time, and supervising children climbing and playing on the yard.
• Ability to work outdoors in both rainy conditions and high heat conditions.
• Up-to-date certification in pediatric First Aid and CPR, fingerprinting, LiveScan.
• A strong background and understanding of social and emotional child development in children ages 2-5 years old.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• AA, BA, or Master Teacher Permit.
• Knowledge and experience working in an emergent, play-based program based on the constructivist theory of education.
• Experience with cooperative nursery schools either as a teacher or parent.
