Overview:

Essential Functions:

  • Effectively supervises assigned employees, including the following:
    • ​Supervises, coordinates and manages the staff in planning, developing and implementing high quality, relevant outdoor education programs that align with Ohio Education Standards, National Education Standard
    • Interviews, selects and trains employees
    • Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures
    • Directs work of employees and coordinates annual work plans and sets/adjusts hours of work, and sets priorities
    • Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees’ productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other changes in status
    • Maintains records of attendance and programming, and submits statistics and reports required
    • Handles employee complaints and disciplines employees when necessary;
    • Monitors or implements legal compliance measur
    • Provides for the safety of employees and the property of Cleveland Metroparks
    • Maintains accurate payroll, sick leave, and vacation records for employees under their supervision. Maintains accurate volunteer records
  • Coordinates outdoor education programs with local schools. Works with civic organizations and other groups to implements quality outdoor education programs;
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with area schools, community organizations and other agencies thought Cuyahoga County with a focus on Cleveland and inner ring suburbs.
  • Consults with Director of Outdoor Experiences on matters of Outdoor Education programming, staffing, policy, procedures, and objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective volunteer program.
  • Drives NatureTracks to sites where programs are to be held.
  • Manages the developments and implementation of evaluation tools which measure the effectiveness and appropriateness of on-going outdoor education programs. Makes adjustments as necessary to improve program quality.
  • Manages the development and upkeep of displays and exhibits for NatureTracks as necessary.
  • Actively participates in long term and short term planning within Outdoor Experiences and other departments. Communicates to ensure initiatives are compatible with divisional goals and park district mission.
  • Supervises assigned employees through effective planning, communication, training and problem resolutions. Promotes teamwork.
  • Coordinates social media posting, blogs, etc. as requested.
  • Pre-visits off-site locations for accessibility and safety as needed.
  • Oversees Outreach budget
    • Administers operation and capital mobile education budgets;
    • Prepares annual budget and adheres to all purchasing guidelines.
    • Works with Cleveland Metroparks grant coordinator to obtain grants, tracks grants and assures compliance with grant conditions.
  • Maintenance
    • Coordinates with appropriate park management and other park personnel in the maintenance and up-keep of NatureTracks and office facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Education, Environmental Studies, Education, Natural Resource or related field or equivalent. Three years of experience in parks, outdoor education or related field. One year of supervisory experience.
  • Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. Valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire date. CIG preferred.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs and web systems.
  • Ability to teach to a wide variety of ages and abilities with a demonstrated awareness of conservation issues and knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the region.
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • High degree of demonstrated cultural competency.
  • Must be a non-smoker/tobacco user.

Compensation Information:

FULL SALARY RANGE:  $56,493- $79,091/Annually

Typical Hiring Salary: $56,493 - $67,792/Annually
