Overview:
Play and Prep Preschool offers outdoor and traditional preschool classes for students that are 2-5 years old. The goal of our nature based program is to foster development of the whole child by tapping into their inherent connection to the natural environment. Our teachers encourage students to be curious, ask questions, gather information and construct their own theories of how the world works. The staff must have the ability to create a dynamic environment where play and learning happens.
The Outdoor Teacher position is available for the 2023-24 school year;
- Be comfortable working outside in all types of weather
- Have an authentic love of the natural world
- Be responsible for the health, safety, and the welfare of all children. This includes helping children to stay warm and dry in inclement weather, managing risk in an outdoor setting, and addressing student conflicts
- Assist with centers and transitions including dressing and undressing for the outdoor
- To plan and teach developmentally age appropriate curriculum in alignment with the Ohio Department of Early Childhood education learning standards/Innovations curriculum used as guidance
- Organize lesson plans, which includes the gathering and preparing of materials and resources for the program
- Written lesson plans available for review prior to the date of the lesson and to provide substitute plans when necessary
- Completion of daily and weekly staff duties as outlined in the Staff Handbook
- Supervise assistant teacher or student teachers in performing their duties
- To attend beginning of the school year workdays, Meet the Teacher day (end of Aug), Art show (mid- April), end of Year picnic (mid- May)
- To attend professional meetings/in-services/workshops concerned with the education of young children; Trainings at least 6 hours every year.
- To provide parent conferences at least once a year, on a date determined by the Director and the Board;
- Complete written progress report two times/year (early Feb/end of year);
- To address any parent concerns in a timely manner;
- To act as a liaison between the parents, the Preschool, and the Community.
