Overview:
The Summit Environmental Education Center at Haw River State Park is the only residential environmental education program in the NC State Park system! The Summit is an outdoor environmental education center located at Haw River State Park, in beautiful Browns Summit, near Greensboro, NC. We’re seeking dedicated, creative, fun, outdoor enthusiasts with high-energy to become Summit instructors. Summit instructors work with children ages 7 to 18, both onsite and/or through virtual fieldtrip programming. SEEC instructors also facilitate adult groups through teambuilding activities. The Summit normally offers programming ranging from 1-day experiences up to 3-day/2-night residential stays. For Spring 2021, the SEEC education department will need confident, flexible individuals interested in facilitating environmental education via a wide variety methods and mediums.
During the 2020 season, SEEC modified and adapted programming to include 3 weeks of highly modified on-site summer camp, a virtual summer camp for elementary and middle school students and socially distant/masked family day events in August and October. SEEC instructors also participated in Facebook Live presentations ranging from Eastern Box Turtles to night hikes and nature yoga. All on-site environmental education programming followed strict CDC and NC DHHS Covid-19 guidelines and regulations. Our first consideration is the safety of our park guests and staff. All trainings and programs will continue to follow all CDC and NC DHHS guidelines.
Why work here instead of another outdoor environmental education center? This Spring is the perfect opportunity to join a team willing and able to facilitate environmental education in a whole new way. The Summit is determined to create and maintain the highest standards within the field of environmental education and offers staff training and professional development throughout the year. You will gain outdoor education experience in Piedmont Wildlife, Animal Adaptations, Wilderness Survival, Orienteering, Teambuilding, Soils, Wetlands Ecology along with virtual fieldtrip programming experience. The position is a seasonal position with the NC State Park System. A four-year degree is required. Start Date is mid-February – ending November 22nd, 2021, with the possibility of re-hire in February 2022. Your employment will include a salary of $10/hr. with housing/utilities for only $30 a month if interested.
