Overview:

Specific Responsibilities:

School groups come to YMCA Camp Eberhart for an average of three days. While they are here OE Instructors teach a variety of classes including outdoor survival, wildlife adaptations, lake communities as well as many other nature/ science themed classes.  Instructors also help instill a love for the outdoors through recreational activities such as rock climbing, high ropes course, canoeing, archery and horseback trail rides. During the evening instructors may also teach a wide variety of programs.

- Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, and respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.

- Teach high quality educational programs to school and community groups about nature (wildlife, ecology and other outdoor sciences) as well as recreational activities (rock climbing, canoeing, archery and horse trail rides).

-Lead evening activities: campfires, field games, large group activities, etc. 

-Engage visitors in songs, games, group fillers, or discussions between classes and during other break times.

-Organize, set-up and tear down program area which you oversee.

-Maintain the organization of equipment and classroom materials with high standards.

-Demonstrate teamwork and professionalism when working closely with other staff members.

-Assist housekeeping and maintenance staff with maintaining a clean camp-including camp grounds and buildings. 

-Be up to date and knowledgeable all safety and security guidelines set out by YMCA Camp Eberhart and the American Camping Association.

-Able to communicate to others how the YMCA supports kids, adults and families in the community.

Qualifications:

-Ability to relate to and interact with youth and adults in a positive manner.
-Able to adapt within an ever-changing work environment.
-Current CPR/AED/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens certifications or must be completed within 30 days of hire.
-Lifeguard certification, preferred.
-Comfortable teaching outdoor recreational activities. 
-Understands the mission on the YMCA.

Experience:

-Three months or more working experience with children in a camp, nature center, school or similar field. 
-Experience teaching outdoor/ nature themed programs, preferred. 

Seasonal position:
Mid August - Thanksgiving

Pay:
Average of $300- $350/week
Room and board
