Essential Functions:

• Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
• Proposes, plans, develops and delivers innovative educational programs emphasizing the natural, historical and cultural aspects of Cleveland Metroparks in support of the mission of conservation, education and outdoor recreation: Coordinates programs held at assigned reservations and off-site locations; prepares for programs by safely preparing exhibit animals for transport to off-site locations; gathers exhibit items for display and interpretation; designs route/itinerary for hikes and special outdoor site study or bus tours; plans for co-leading of programs with other naturalists, Natural Resources employees, or guest speakers/leaders; safely leads groups on outdoor hikes/walks/site study with special attentions paid to weather elements, trail access, water depths, safe operation of study tools and gear (etc.) and observance and awareness of the physical abilities of attendees.
• Designs and implements programs in support of Outdoor Experiences, Natural Resources, and other divisions within the Park District. Communicates natural and cultural history, outdoor education, environmental and park-related information to the communities we serve and co-workers, peers and volunteers: Maintains up to date understanding of the Park District's rules and regulations, strategic plans, land acquisitions, and relationships of divisions; designs and co-leads programs that mutually benefit outdoor education, recreation, natural resources, and other Park District divisions; communicates information through personal contact, telephone, Internet, employee portal, park publications, social media, other written information, and the media.
• Researches, designs, reviews, and maintains interpretive exhibits and displays in nature centers and reservations: Implements graphic arts and design elements for use in temporary exhibits; implements graphic arts and multimedia elements for design of effective educational exhibits and basic signage; researches and designs creative new temporary or permanent exhibits based on thematic relevance to nature center and interpretive goals.
• Oversees animal care (reptiles, amphibians, and fish) for animals housed in naturalistic exhibits, and the care and enhancement of nature center outdoor wildflower gardens: Researches and designs creative new temporary or permanent exhibits based on thematic relevance to nature center and interpretive goals. Maintain the appearance of temporary and permanent exhibits, including animal care; completes regular hygienic maintenance of enclosures, proper handling, and veterinary care ordering and stocking and offering food items, security and protection of wild animals featured in exhibits; oversees maintenance and beautification of entryway gardens to offer visitors a welcoming experience.
• Researches, writes, develops and reviews written interpretive materials, and environmental-based educational curricula. Creates content, publishes and monitors posts on social media, such as Facebook, Instagram and web-based blogs. Writes Emerald Necklace newsletter articles; revises maps and program guides, creates and reviews content for trailside interpretation and program and event publications. Familiarity with graphic design software and managing photo files preferred.
• Reviews program feedback and visitor input to continually improve programming: Gathers and reviews feedback via online program evaluation surveys provided to teachers, camp coordinators, camp counselors, home-school parents, and adults in attendance of public programming; researches new and creative opportunities for enhancing experiences of visitors and program attendees by monitoring journals, magazines, newsletters, organizational websites for new and exciting program ideas to weave into the curricula.
• Participates in field training and related assignments: Attends in-services, regional and national conferences and workshops, serves as guest speaker for other organizations.
• Assists with all aspects of facility operations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in natural resources, wildlife management, ecology, field biology, environmental education or related field required. Minimum of three years of experience in informal science education, classroom education, field exposure including wildlife contact; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
• Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) by the National Association of Interpretation, preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
• Ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
• Ability to field impromptu media requests and appearances.
• Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
• Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.

Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Must be a non-smoker/tobacco user.
