Overview:
The Outdoor Experiences Assistant supports the efforts of Outdoor Experiences staff with educational programs, camps, recreation programs, gardening, hosting, office work, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. The Assistant may be focused on outdoor education, outdoor recreation, historical interpretation, or facility/program support.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
- Provides outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks conservation, education and outdoor recreation mission and to promote environmental education and stewardship.
- Assists with outdoor recreation and environmental education programs within the park district and at off-site locations.
- Participates in special events or projects as assigned.
- Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
- Drives Park District vehicles to transport equipment as required.
- Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
- Performs light maintenance functions.
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least a high school junior. Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, history, or related discipline
- Must have a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must obtain and maintain a current first aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education or recreation.
- Basic knowledge of natural and/or cultural history of the region.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Wage: $15.00 per hour
Work Schedule: Work period of approximately June 27 through August 13, 2022, at 40 hours per week. Some Sundays may be required
