Overview:
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation nature centers in Charlotte, NC are seeking energetic and creative individuals for part time positions in environmental education and outdoor recreation. Ideal candidates are passionate about the outdoors and connecting with the community through nature. These are entry level positions and managers are intent on building employees up in skills and confidence to take the next step in their outdoor career.
These positions are located at Reedy Creek Nature Center and Quest at Latta Nature Preserve, but applicants may be considered for similar roles at other locations throughout Mecklenburg County, NC.

Specific Job Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist with environmental education, outdoor recreation, and summer day camp programming at the nature center
• Develop and lead mission-based programs that meet the needs of our audiences
• Assist with customer service duties, including working the front desk and answering visitor questions
• Assist with other aspects of nature center operations, including animal care, garden work, cleaning the nature center, and other tasks as needed
• Maintain program materials and work areas by storing materials properly, cleaning equipment, and keeping work areas neat
• Maintain Wilderness First Aid certification
• Be a leader to seasonal and summer camp staff
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in biology, natural science, environmental education, or related field
• 1 or more years’ experience with informal education, outdoor recreation, or interpretation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience required.
- Education: Requires enrollment in, or completion of a BS/BA degree in one of the following: natural/environmental sciences, biology, botany, ecology, environmental education, education, or related field.
- Combination of relevant experience accepted in lieu of bachelor's degree.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer knowledge.
- Licenses and Certifications: North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain and maintain a County Operator’s Permit.
