Calling all avid outdoorsy peeps!

Work with our Teen Adventure Program staff and campers. Spend part of your summer at our beautiful rustic outpost, and part of your summer down at base camp. Hiking, climbing, biking, outdoor cooking, white water rafting!  June 8 - August 13. 

Each session has 12 campers age 13 and 14 plus two Teen Adventure Program Counselors

Main duties - prepare campers and supplies for each 4 night/5 day oupost experience. Plan meals,  coordinate cook and clean up groups, coordinate rafting and hiking trips from outpost. 

Base camp - prepare campers for their trip and assist with baoting, ropes course and biking activities.
Horsham and Millville, Pennsylvania locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current First Aid/CPR or be able to obtain by summer
• Lifeguard Training preferred (or ability to participate in courses offered by College Settlement)
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive 15 passenger camp vehicles

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Three years of experience in camping, education, recreation, or group-related work.
• Two years’ experience with adventure based activities such as kayaking, white water rafting, climbing or biking
• Three years’ experience in hiking and camping, with solid knowledge of Leave No Trace principles
• At least two years’ experience in driving motor vehicles
• At least 6 months experience working with teenage youth
• Experience and desire to lead extended overnight outdoor recreation and outdoor living skills programs.

 BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

• At all times, assume responsibility for implementing health and safety procedures for TAP campers and staff both on and off site
• Provide direct supervision of activities such as hiking, rafting, biking, climbing, camp craft according to Camp’s Risk Management Code
• Supervise, coordinate and implement the Spruce Run Outpost program including camper orientation
• Plan for all SRO meals and prepare food under guidance of Food Services manager using ServSafe procedures
• Provide supervision, training and mentoring for TAP counselors
• Maintain a safe, sanitary and tidy Spruce Run Outpost 
• Drive 15 passenger van with trailer to off site activities
• Effectively communicate with all TAP staff, Camp Nurse, Food Services Manager and Camp Director 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Communicate and work with campers and staff, and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
2. Observe campers behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate Risk Management Code regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
3. Ability to train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
4. Prepare for, orient campers to and lead all activities involved in the program including activities based at the base camp and Spruce Run Outpost such as
   • White water rafting 
   • Camp-craft, low impact outdoor living skills and promote proper trail/outdoor ethics. 
   • Mountain biking
   • Hiking 
   • High Ropes Course
   • Canoe/kayaking
   • Outdoor cooking
5. Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with Camp Director/Camp Nurse
   • Medication and first aid administration
   • Accident and incident reports
   • Parent calls
   • Camper evaluations
   • End of summer reports
6. Follow all Risk Management Code policies which apply to the Teen Adventure Program including
7. Emergency Action Plans on and off site
8. Sanitary Food Service procedures
9. Safe driver procedures
10. Other job functions
11. Effectively supervise and mentor campers at all times 
12. Participate fully in all aspects of the program as required, including swimming, climbing, biking trips, overnights, special days, etc.
13. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
14. Attend all meetings and staff trainings as assigned
15. Become completely familiar with aspects of Risk Management Code and ACA Standards which relate to your job responsibilities

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:

• Ability to communicate and provide necessary instruction and guidance to campers and staff
• Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to any activity the staff member participates in or leads 
• Ability to load heavy equipment and supplies into trailers/vehicles, etc.
• Ability to hike 7 miles over rugged terrain
• Ability to assist with high ropes course climbing activities, rafting and mountain biking activities
• Ability to spend up to 7 nights in tent or Adirondack style accomodation
• Ability to work long hours in adverse weather and participate in all facets of camp programs
