Green Ambassador Crew Leaders (CL) supervise a “crew” of 8-12 youth employees on Thompson Island for a seven-week summer program centered on professional development and exploration of green careers. Youth employees range in age from 15 to 18 years old, and come from diverse communities in and around Boston. Crew Leaders and their co-instructors are responsible for safety and successful execution of work projects for their crew of employees.  Projects are focused on conservation and ecosystem restoration, and generally take place out-of-doors. Crew leaders are also responsible for curriculum delivery for their crew, leading lessons on topics such as professional behavior, environmental responsibility and positive communication. Crew Leaders are responsible for ensuring positive workplace culture and group dynamics, and work to facilitate personal and professional growth in each youth employee. Crew Leaders will often work with youth employees who are highly motivated, but may also face a variety of hurdles in life – including struggling in school, no prior work experience, or minimal support from home.  Positive mentorship and professionalism are crucial to success in this role.
