Overview:
The University of San Diego (USD) department of Environmental and Ocean Sciences (EOSC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track faculty (benefits based on a 9-month contract) to teach courses in geological/physical or ecological environmental science or marine science.
USD is an independent Catholic university whose primary aim is teaching excellence. The faculty member will teach 18-21 units (6-8 lectures or labs per year) of freshman/sophomore-level lectures and laboratory sections, and some junior/senior/graduate (MS)-level courses. In addition, we will consider “Special Topics” courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise. In addition to teaching, the faculty may have an opportunity for leadership in department-sponsored high-school science outreach programs (for additional compensation). Participating in collaborative research and mentoring student research as well as optional additional teaching is possible during the summer. EOSC faculty maintain strong ties with marine and environmental researchers at multiple local institutions. Though this position will start in Fall 2020, an earlier start date (late January, 2020 for teaching in the Spring) may be possible.
Qualifications: PhD (preferred) or MS. Teaching experience at the college/university level required. Demonstrated interest or experience in STEM educational outreach is desirable.
Compensation: $~65,000.00 with potential teaching opportunities for additional compensation during the summer. This is a 9-month benefits-based position with the possibility of a multi-year contract after a probationary period.
