Overview:
Member responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Interpretive/Educational Tours and Guest Experience
- Actively engage visitors through animal artifacts, exhibit interpretation, and patient care in the learning center and rehabilitation pavilion providing supplemental information on the life history, medical treatments, and behaviors of sea turtles
- Encourage students of all ages to respect and preserve their natural environment and community while leading classroom presentations
- Conduct interpretive presentations for large and small groups using a microphone/PA system
Field-Based Education
- Collaborate with staff in the planning and implementation of activity/safety trainings
- Lead seasonal beach ecology walks focused on sea turtle nesting and hatching
- Create bi-monthly email newsletters with reminders and educational resources
- Maintain accurate and detailed records as assigned by staff
- Lead field-based activities during Sea Turtle Camp field trips as needed
Animal Care
- Provide daily cleaning, care, handling, and feeding for a variety of aquatic and terrestrial reptiles used as educational ambassadors
General
- Participate in events including Science Saturdays, Shell-e-brate, and Turtle Crawl
- Share a passion for coastal education, research, and wildlife rehabilitation with people of all ages and from all backgrounds
- Inspire visitors and program participants to become active stewards of our natural resources
- Assist in coordination and support of volunteer docents and program guides as appropriate
- Assist rehabilitation and research departments as needed and permissible by Education Staff
General Requirements:
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Strong public speaking skills
- Education or experience in environmental science or marine biology
- Well-organized
- Self-motivated; able to work independently and with a team
- Basic computer skills
- A desire to learn
- Flexible daily schedule
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- 18+ yrs of age
- 3rd year Undergraduate or beyond
- 1yr working in an educational setting
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain US. Driver’s license
- Preferred (but not required): B.S. in Education, Environmental or Marine Science (experience may supplement for degree)

Compensation Information:
Living allowance ($5,000 distributed equally over duration of service), island amenities, education award at completion of service term, and optional student loan deferment. A temporary JI parking pass will be supplied.
Housing: Optional and subsidized shared housing on Jekyll Island is available. If this option is selected, $200 per month rent surcharge (including utilities) will be automatically deducted from payroll, along with a $100 ($50 refundable) security deposit. Houses have limited-bandwidth internet and air-conditioning; they are also equipped with basic furniture and kitchen supplies. You must provide your own linens, towels, and food. Not provided but available: telephone and cable. Please note, pets are not allowed in housing.
