Overview:

Outdoor Education Instructors live on-site at the Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center, Clear Lake Camp, and lead a variety of both daytime and overnight programs. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, in a related field.
  • Multiple years of experience leading students.
  • Experience leading team building and challenge activities, such as low-ropes.
  • Background experience or knowledge with natural sciences and basic ecology concepts and terms.

Required Qualifications

  • College experience (at least one year)
  • Experience working with children
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification (by first day of work)
  • Able to pass drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to speak to large and small groups.
  • Willingness to learn new things!
  • Can commit to the full season, from late August through December 20. No work Thanksgiving week. 
  • Have and carry a working cell phone. 
  • Live on site. 
  • Rotate into the dormitory, instead of morning and afternoon teaching, every few weeks.

Compensation Information:

First season instructors: $70 per day.  Increases for second and third seasons. 

Housing provided in single or double cabin. Cabins are approximately 20' x 24'. Basic furnishings provided, with lots of room to personalize. Cabins have heat and electricity. No running water. Staff bathhouse and laundry room nearby. Off-season (winter and summer) you may stay in your housing in exchange for volunteer hours or rent. 

Staff kitchenette located in main lodge. Two or three meals a day provided during training, day groups, and overnight groups. If staying for the summer or winter, generally you must provide your own meals unless the kitchen is cooking for a group.
