Overview:
North Cascades Institute seeks a qualified, enthusiastic professional to become its Facilities Manager. Based out of the Institute’s field campus in North Cascades National Park, this position oversees all maintenance, housekeeping, and food service for the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center, which may serve up to 92 children and/or adults per day on a seven-day-a-week schedule, up to twelve months a year. Supervised by the Learning Center Director, this position works closely with Institute staff, partners and contractors to support a wide array of educational programs.
Qualifications
Required:
- Enthusiasm for the mission of the North Cascades Institute.
- At least three years experience as a supervisor.
- At least three years of professional experience in facilities management.
- Ability to motivate staff and foster a positive workplace environment.
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks with exemplary time management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to comply with a smoke- and drug-free work environment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk over uneven terrain.
- Possession of current driver’s license; acceptable driving record for past three years.
- Criminal history disclosure form and background check will be required.
- Ability to accommodate a varied work schedule including weekend work.
Preferred:
- Carpentry, electrical, HVAC and mechanical experience.
- Commercial kitchen experience.
- Experience in the hospitality industry.
- Previous maintenance experience at other residential learning centers, camps, schools or similar facilities.
- Current certification as Wilderness First Responder.
- Commercial Drivers License.
Responsibilities
Management and Supervision
- Manages maintenance and housekeeping for the Learning Center campus and off-campus housing.
- Maintains service logs and inventory.
- Orders maintenance and housekeeping supplies as needed and budgeted.
- Hires, trains and supervises maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen staff, and volunteers, including Institute graduate students and interns working in “campus jobs.”
- Develops, implements and updates written guidelines for maintenance procedures; trains staff and volunteers for safe, efficient use of facilities, tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Manages and complies with all applicable inspection requirements and schedules.
- Insures WISHA compliance/recordkeeping relevant to maintenance, housekeeping, and food service.
- Leads campus-wide recycling and composting program and uses green materials and local products as appropriate; oversees maintenance shop and recycling/compost/waste handling building.
- Works with staff and volunteers to maintain the native plant restoration project at the Learning Center.
- Assists in providing overnight and off-season supervision of the campus in coordination with other staff.
Facilities Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Performs routine maintenance, repair, and upgrades on buildings, facility systems, grounds, tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Performs routine housekeeping (e.g., restroom cleaning, garbage, sweeping, laundry) for accommodations, classrooms and offices.
General
- Participate in general staff responsibilities such as staff meetings, hands to work, risk management, and hospitality.
- Participates in strategic planning, inter-office communications, budgeting, and other duties as assigned by the Learning Center Director and/or Executive Director.
Compensation, Benefits and Housing
This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. We offer a competitive compensation package; benefits include paid time-off, medical/dental insurance and tax-deferred annuity and contribution retirement plans. Institute housing may be available for rent. Pets and smoking are not allowed in on-site housing or during programs. Salary range is $50,000 - $55,000 per year, DOE.
