Overview:
The Environmental Educator will teach our nature-based summer camp classes to students ages 3-12. They will join a friendly, dynamic staff that is dedicated to carrying out Hartley Nature Center’s mission of inspiring lifelong connections with nature through education, play and exploration.
Status: Part Time, 25 hours/week
Start date: June 1, 2021
End date: August 13, 2021
Pay: $13 - $13.50 depending on experience
Duties:
• Develop developmentally appropriate, child-centered programming for nature-based day camps
• Teach and attend training for 6-10 weeks of camps between May 31st-Aug 26, possibility of being an on-call sub for additional weeks on an as needed basis
• Teach camps to youth ages 4-12. Programs run 9a-12p or 1-4p Mon-Fri
• Attend weekly staff meetings and engage with professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to complete during staff training
• Experience teaching environmental education or outdoor recreation
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to relate with people of all ages and abilities in a positive manner
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Genuine interest in working with children in the outdoors
• Degree in environmental studies, education, sciences, or related field or equivalent experience
• Ability to work and teach outdoors in all weather conditions
• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
