Overview:
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
- Development and presentation of environmental education programs to pre-k children and school age children;
- Assist with planning, preparation and execution of outreach, events, and community programs on behalf of the Trust for children and adult;
- PR for events, classes, and programs for the Trust using traditional and social media outlets;
- Assist with the management of social media accounts, blogs, web presence, and other outreach for the organization;
- Assist in the care of education animals, farm animals as needed;
- Assist and support other staff with programs, events, grant writing, and any other Trust operations as needed
B.A. or B.S. required, preferably with a major or concentration in environmental education, environmental interpretation, biology, earth science, natural resources management, environmental studies, education, or a similar course of studies; A.S. degree or two years completed toward B.A./ B.S. degree above with significant professional experience in environmental education may be considered. Familiarity with program development preferred; experience teaching in informal settings is required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across multiple formats. Knowledge of local wildlife and natural history desired or willingness and ability to learn about the same. Technology skills required for this position and include Word, Excel, Google suite, as well as social media, cloud-based web management; graphics/editing also strongly desired. Knowledge and experience working with farm animals a plus. Must have a clean Massachusetts driving record and reliable personal transportation. Occasional local travel (within 30-40 minutes or less of office) required to implement programs.
Some flexibility available in the schedule for this position. In late spring/summer, full days are required at least Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, with some flexibility with start and end times and other work days. In fall/ winter, schedule is more flexible, but requires availability at our office during weekdays. Work at home is not available for this position. Number of assigned hours varies seasonally, highest in spring through mid-fall. Some weekend or evening shifts occasionally required for programs, events, or other Trust activities.
Physically, must be able to lead educational walks on unimproved trails in all seasons, lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be comfortable leading groups of children and/or adults in outdoor learning spaces, woods, and fields. Employment requires completion of acceptable CORI/SORI. This is a part-time, year-round position. Benefits outside of required MA leave are not provided for this position. Hourly salary dependent upon experience.
