Overview:
The Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, Florida is searching for an Environmental Educator who will work with a dedicated and supportive team to strengthen current programs and create new nature education and outreach initiatives focused on the ELC’s mission to educate, inspire, and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being. Full and part-time opportunities are available.
Primary Duties:
- Develop and teach cross-disciplinary, participatory programs using informal education methods for a wide variety of groups, including but not limited to school field trip, summer day-camp, professional development, and adult enrichment programs.
- Contribute to the expansion and maintenance of interpretive exhibits and displays, including display aquariums.
- Assist in project and funding proposal development in collaboration with fellow staff and community members.
- Collaborate with other organizations in developing, maintaining, and assessing impact of nature-based programs that serve community needs.
- Represent the organization at community events and in other venues.
- Draft, edit and submit written content for newsletters, annual reports, brochures, promotional materials, press releases, and social media.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, education, or related science/natural resource field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience with youth audiences (informal, outdoor experience preferred).
- Ability to manage children ages pre-K to high school outdoors; must be able to observe behavior and implement appropriate behavior management techniques as needed.
- Knowledge of interpretive techniques and science communication.
- Love of the outdoors, knowledge of ecology and the Indian River Lagoon ecosystem, and leader in sustainable living.
- Current first-aid and CPR certificate.

Salery range is $15-$20 per hour. Full-time position is 40 hours per week Monday-Friday with some weekend and evenings required. Part-time hours vary based on program need. Full-time employees are eligiable for paid time off, health, vision, and dental insurance, and a 401k plan after an applicable waiting period.
