Overview:

Work in a dynamic nonprofit to inspire and engage local school aged youth in salmon recovery projects!

The member will increase understanding of issues facing salmon, inspiring action, and fostering the next generation of environmental stewards through classroom lessons and field experiences. This position serves over 40 teachers and more than 1,000 students each year in service learning field trips ranging from water quality monitoring, riparian habitat restoration, salmon tossing, field investigations on Puget Sound beaches, explorations of the local wildlife refuge to monitor wildlife and learn ethnobotany, volunteering at the local salmon hatchery, removing invasive species and more. The AmeriCorps member serving with NREP will foster this sense of place and empower students and adults to connect with their local environments to create positive change through hands-on, outdoor learning projects supported with in-class lessons.
