Overview:

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and implement new, innovative curricula including programs for the University of Montevallo at Ebenezer Swamp Ecological Preserve, the UM Organic Community Garden, the James Wylie Shepherd Observatory, University Lake, and other UM sites as needed. 

Onsite residential lodging will be required for this position. Room and board will be included in the compensation at an estimated value of $7,800/annually.

Essential Job Duties: 

  1. Write grants and performs fundraising activities to develop program and the physical space at the Swamp;
  2. Establish partnerships with schools who bring students for field trips;
  3. Develop and deliver programs at multiple UM sites linked to K-12 curricular standards;
  4. Hire, train, approve time sheets and supervise UM student docents who will assist in educational activities;
  5. Oversee the Environmental Education Residency Program’s social media campaign;
  6. Help develop the vision for the new interpretive center;
  7. Acquire and care for interpretive animal population;
  8. Maintain property and grounds including mowing lawn, weeding garden, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Effective written and oral communication;
  • Experience engaging people in outdoor spaces;
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners;
  • Ability to work independently on long-term projects;
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor goals and strategies;
  • Experience in grant writing preferred.

  • The educational requirement for this position is: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
