Overview:
Duties & responsibilities
Program Administration
- Manage program support administration, including databases, contracts, insurance, billing, user statistics, and scheduling.
- Respond in a timely manner and with excellent customer service to high volume telephone, written, and e-mail inquiries regarding education programs and the use of PRNSA education facilities.
- Help supervise PRNSA volunteers and seasonal employees.
- Serve as a community liaison to build partnerships with other organizations and to recruit underserved populations to participate in environmental education opportunities.
- Assist with program marketing, publicity, and website updates.
- Attend PRNSA staff and/or board meetings, regional meetings, conferences, and other events as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Facilitation
- Perform welcome and orientation programs for education facilities user groups.
- Effectively communicate and implement NPS and PRNSA policies and procedures and Federal Health and Safety Codes to education facility users.
- Develop and lead environmental education programs (field trips, teacher training, summer camp) as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Facilities Management
- Help perform education facilities management, maintenance, and clean up.
- Check groups in and out of our education facilities.
- Act as program liaison, consultant, advisor, and support person for all education facilities users.
- Report all maintenance, repair, and safety concerns to appropriate personnel including appliance repair vendors, NPS personnel, and Director of Youth Programs.
- Complete and follow up on work requests as necessary.
- Keep all supplies and equipment stocked and ready for group use.
- Monitor and maintain composting, recycling, and garbage systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Background and/or strong interest in natural history, ecology, and conservation.
- Strong PC and Microsoft Office skills. Familiarity with Excel, Access, Google Docs software is desired.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and great attention to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and within necessary deadlines.
- Education, training, and experience in public speaking, and in planning and presenting field-based environmental and natural history education programs to youth a plus.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles of environmental education, and a desire to provide access to these programs to underserved youth.
- Experience working with diverse populations and interfacing with various groups of stakeholders.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
- Must be willing to obtain and retain a Class B commercial driver license.
- Must be willing to be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check through the California Department of Justice.
