Position Description:
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is currently seeking a part-time Education Specialist I. Education Specialist I must provide interactive and high-quality delivery of the Conservation Education programs, such as Zoo-on-the-Moves, Zoo Camps, onsite programming (Behind-the-Scenes, daily Educational programming) and birthday parties. Education Specialist will collaborate on the design of curriculum, activities, and programs while supporting the Education Department’s mission. This position requires applicant to work both Saturdays and Sundays, plus some evenings. Other tasks include:
Use suitable interpretive techniques while educating guests and maintaining a high level of enthusiasm. Facilitate education programming for various ages.
Assist with the husbandry of the Education animal collection.
Assist with administrative duties as needed including maintenance and inventory of animal artifacts, program materials, monthly reports, etc.
Assist in the development and implementation of event days and special programming.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
Schedule will primarily be Thursday/Friday – Sunday (weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events as required by the needs of the department) with no more than 30 hours/ week.
This schedule will have a focus on Zoo Camps, Birthday Parties, Parents’ Night Out, Onsite Educational Programs, and Behind-the-Scenes tours.
Salary:
$10/ hour (not to exceed 20-30 hours/ week)
Education and Experience Required:
A strong background in biology, zoology, and/or life science is required. Enrollment in or a graduate of a four-year degree in Education or Science related field is preferred. Previous teaching experience with children in an informal setting (such as zoo, museum, nature center, parks department, etc.) is preferred. Must be comfortable handling animals (small mammals, reptiles, and birds) and animal artifacts. Must possess or be eligible for a valid FL driver’s license. Experience gained will be through an Education Department of an AZA-accredited facility!
