Overview:
Primary duties include: 1) designing, coordinating and leading environmental education programs for both adults and children that encourage connection to the natural world. 2) Work in partnership with an ever-growing network of community partners to identify and fill gaps in outdoor education programming.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop, present, and promote engaging, year-round conservation focused environmental education programs for all ages to be offered at area schools, organizations, and Land Trust nature preserves
• Identify opportunities for environmental education in Madison County and surrounding areas; adapt programs to fit individual and ever changing needs within the community and ensure equitable delivery of programs throughout North Alabama
• Advance the mission of the Land Trust’s work through networking, relationship-building, media coverage, and fundraising
• Serve as staff liaison to the Education Committee and recruit members with varied areas of expertise and interests
• Collaborate with Development Director on identifying grant needs and opportunities, project implementation, and post-project reporting
• Create and manage annual budget for all programs and events
• Recruit, train, and supervise contracted educators and qualified volunteers to assist with programming
• Contribute to the Land Trust’s social media channels, website, and quarterly publications with updates regarding education programs and events.
• Measure and illustrate the impact of education programs by collecting participation data and feedback
• Attend local and regional education workshops/conferences as offered
• Use of Signup.com, WordPress, and Constant Contact for planning and event communications

Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental education or related area and at least three years’ teaching experience
• Enthusiasm for environmental education and the mission, goals, and values of the Land Trust
• Familiarity with native plants, wildlife, natural features, and conservation threats • Experience building and implementing environmental education curricula • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with schools and other community and conservation organizations.
• Enthusiastic, personable, and responsive leader with experience leading groups and working with people of varying ages, abilities, and comfort levels in natural settings. • Self-directed, organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Available to work evenings and weekends as required
• Ability to work for extended periods outdoors, including hiking with 40lbs over uneven terrain.
• Demonstrated effective written communication skills. Ability to compose general business correspondence, extensive computer skills and knowledge of office equipment and procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Effective verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills. Ability to encourage teamwork and work cooperatively with others.
Salary and Benefits:
• Annual salary $33,280
• Benefits include health insurance, paid holidays and paid time off
