Overview:

Position Summary

The Education Director is responsible for overseeing the quality and consistency of educational programming for students at the Golden Gate Campus. They promote and create educational excellence in accordance with NatureBridge’s Theory of Change. To accomplish this, the Education Director leads the Education Team at the Golden Gate campus as part of a cohesive, cross-location Education Department and is the primary representative between Golden Gate educational programs and NatureBridge-wide program initiatives and partnerships. They also work closely with the cross functional Golden Gate Leadership Team to foster a high quality campus staff experience which includes a positive community work culture built on a foundation of trust.

Initial Program Support

As NatureBridge rebuilds post-COVID, the responsibilities of the Golden Gate Education Director will shift from broadly encompassing the majority of campus education management responsibilities to leading a team of Education Managers.The full job description includes the expected duties that the Director will initially hold, then transfer to employees they supervise.

Requirements 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications

  • Four to ten years of experience in nonprofit management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Sophisticated understanding of and demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and equity in education
  • Proven experience building high functioning teams and positive community work culture
  • Strong ability to lead proactive change in management processes in response to new opportunities or understandings
  • Significant experience supervising and collaborating with multiple teams; proven coaching/ mentoring skills
  • Experience developing innovative programs, trainings and curricula
  • Extensive experience teaching youth, adults and professional educators
  • Exemplary budget and project management skills
  • Strategic and systems-focused approach to management
  • Exceptional communication skills - including writing, editing and public speaking skills
  • Strong pedagogical foundations in experiential and inquiry-based learning, social emotional learning, inclusive education practices and phenomena-based curricula

Desirable Qualifications

  • Lived experience as or experience working with: people of color, indigenous people, people whose first language is other than English, people from low-income communities, people from immigrant communities, people who are gender non-conforming or non-binary, people who are LGBTQIA+, people with special needs and other groups that are impacted by the historic and current system of oppression that has prevented them from having access to environmental education
  • Current Wilderness First Responder or willingness to acquire after hire
  • Experience designing, implementing and analyzing results of program evaluations and assessments
  • Teaching credential
  • Working knowledge of human and natural history of the California Coast
