Overview:

The Education Coordinator and Camp Director develops, coordinates, manages, prepares, and markets an array of education programs for a diverse audience with a primary focus on our popular ACA accredited summer day camp. Management of the camp includes preparing documentation for licenses, ACA accreditation, and state permits.

In addition, the Education Coordinator provides instructional leadership in the form of coaching, mentorship, and oversight to ensure the implementation of quality camp and educational programs for youth, families, adults, schools, and groups that incorporate broader content areas and engage mixed audiences. This position works with staff to develop, implement, and analyze formative assessment tools for programs, including lessons and unit plans as well as maintaining records of programs, analyzing trends and working with the Sanctuary Director to make adjustments.

The Education Coordinator manages a number of full-time and part-time education staff and camp counselors providing new employee orientation, assigning work, reviewing and monitoring performance, and providing ongoing training/mentoring. This position coordinates and markets special trainings for professional audiences, including professional development for teachers, organized groups, and Mass Audubon staff.

Mass Audubon serves as a resource on natural history, environmental policy, and conservation science issues and the holder of this position promotes Mass Audubon membership and provides information about Mass Audubon’s mission, programs, and stewardship to staff, visitors, members, volunteers, and the community. The Education Coordinator is part of the leadership team at Moose Hill and actively participates with the Mass Audubon Director of Education in statewide education staff meetings, statewide camp director meetings, education work groups, and professional development trainings, as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental education; or Master’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education and a minimum of 3 years’ experience; or any equivalent combination of education experience logical or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education. Experience with a focus on camp leadership and youth development is preferred. Requires 4 years of prior supervisory experience of staff/volunteers and 4 years of experience in budget development and management, as well as revenue forecasting and financial recordkeeping. Must meet requirements for camp directors consistent with state and ACA standards—at least 25 years of age and at least 2 seasons of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp.

Requirements:

  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Successful completion of a CORI/SORI
  • Valid driver’s license
