Overview:

The Conservancy is seeking a full-time education coordinator who will oversee the Conservancy Environmental Education Center operations and facilitate education program implementation at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The ideal candidate will be energetic, adept at multitasking, willing to work flexible hours, and passionate about environmental education. They should have experience working in an admin role and genuinely enjoy working with the public, program partners, schools, children and families.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration:

  • Responsible for daily office logistics including supply orders, tracking program participants, maintaining a departmental database, and managing the general Conservancy education email inbox.
  • Track invoicing and budget expenditures and work with the Deputy Director and Education Director to reconcile and execute financial plans.
  • Manage and update programmatic data, including materials required for internal and external reporting.
  • Track grant reporting requirements.
  • Assist with scheduling to ensure adequate staffing coverage across education programs, including full-time staff, part-time staff, seasonal staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance needs of the Environmental Education Center (schedule room cleanings, contractor-related repairs etc.)
  • Manage merchandise sales and inventory.
  • Collaborate with volunteer manager and education manager to recruit, on-board, and train seasonal staff and volunteers.

Program Coordination:

  • Input and launch program registration schedules using an online booking platform. 
  • Regularly review registration details for class bookings and manage communications with visiting teachers, trip organizers, and/or parents prior to each visit.
  • Schedule and organize public programs in collaboration with the Director, communicating between departments, external partners, and other scheduling considerations.
  • Assist in maintaining oversight and coordination of partner programs and the development of new partners.
  • Communicate with and submit applications to Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation and any other relevant organizations to obtain necessary program permits.
  • Work with the Conservancy team to send routine programmatic announcements to provide updates across various platforms and maintain positive external communications with school and institutional partnerships.
  • Help facilitate and execute programming on-site, including managing registration, equipment, partner communications, and public-facing communications.
  • Serve as a park ambassador for the Environmental Education Center and tactfully answer questions from the public regarding park amenities, activities, local attractions, etc.

Skills/Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred degree in data management or education related fields.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, Google suite, and Adobe programs (Fluency in Pivot Tables is a plus).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Valid state driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Must be comfortable driving in tight areas around construction, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as the ability to perform physical labor (able to lift 40 pounds, regularly). Work may also be performed at the natural shore line and on unstable ground.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program needs, including regular evenings, early mornings, and weekends, is required. 
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude who is comfortable getting their hands dirty.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Capacity to confidently and accurately enact Conservancy safety procedures required by staff, program partners and program participants, as well as enforce compliance, communicate related guidelines, and promptly resolve issues as necessary. 
  • Interest in urban ecology, sustainability, and/or waterfront history and enthusiasm for Brooklyn Bridge Park
  • Experience working with children is a plus and a deep commitment to positive youth development.

Compensation:

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt salaried position. Starting salary is $45,000 to $50,000 annually, plus paid overtime.

Paid Time Off:

In the first years of employment, you will be eligible for 15 vacation days (prorated for first partial year, reset in Jan 1 each year), 12 paid federal holidays and 2 floating holidays. You are also entitled to 10 sick days per year. Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
