Overview:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops new educational programs and materials, designs curriculum and supplemental materials and evaluates existing programs and materials. This component includes development of lessons for recycling, energy, water and other green schools related education, summer camp, tours, professional development and other needs as they arise.
- Coordinates and schedules the delivery of multiple programs and lessons with various audiences, primarily including K-12 schools and educators.
- Delivers presentations, conducts classes, and facilitates training workshops for all age levels & audiences, including K-12 education, higher education, teacher professional development, volunteers, and general adult education.
- Seeks to expand the reach of EWC programming, making sure that we reach a more diverse population and serve underserved communities.
- Assist Manager, Sustainability Education in writing publication-ready media (web updates, e-news articles, social media posts, etc.)
- Coordinates EarthWays Center specific volunteer program in conjunction with MBG overall Volunteer Program and Manager, including volunteer recruitment, training and advising, numbers reporting, maintaining EarthWays Center volunteer needs and work assignments, coordinating special events using volunteers etc.
- Assist Manager, Sustainability Education, in coordinating EarthWays Center’s Internship program.
- Coordinates and presents the EarthWays Center’s summer day camp program.
- Ensures financial and program goals are met in all assigned project activities including ordering supplies, recruiting audiences to participate, managing budgets, evaluating outcomes, and reporting and documenting all results.
- Coordinates division sustainability activity at the higher education level, including work coordinating the St. Louis Higher Education Sustainability Consortium and work with other organizations such as the US Green Building Council – MO Gateway Chapter’s Higher Ed Committee. This includes developing and managing higher education sustainability programs to ensure sustainability success in the regional higher education institutions.
- Assists with writing grant proposals to fund sustainability education projects.
- Develops working relationships with community partners, including businesses, non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, faith communities, and school partners—teachers, administrators, parents, and staff to advance sustainability education goals throughout the region.
- Represents EarthWays Center in a professional manner at relevant community outreach events and within resource conservation organizational networks. Promotes mutual understanding and respect; appropriately expresses opinions; keeps others informed.
- Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed; informs employees/students/volunteers of safety guidelines, methods to reduce hazards. Reports all accidents, injuries and near-miss accidents immediately.
- Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork and cooperation, within our division and throughout the Garden, with co-workers, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors and employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years working in an educational setting with preference to those working directly in a classroom or a related environmental education field.
- Knowledge of principles and processes of environmental education required.
- Experience with group leadership and educational background preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years working in a leadership role coordinating large, diverse groups of people or partners.
- Minimum of one (1) year coordinating volunteer programs.
- Must have an interest in environmental issues and commitment to fair representation and education of all sides of environmental issues.
- Must have demonstrated understanding of natural systems.
- Excellent ability to communicate effectively at all levels; must enjoy and feel comfortable interacting and working in close proximity to all audiences and general public, in a safe and friendly manner, providing information and answering questions.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with a team (internally and externally) in preparing materials or lessons, committing to common goals, executing priorities, and in sharing expertise in science and teaching.
- Demonstrates highest level of professional and ethical conduct.
- Use of personal car may be required travel to program locations and for the purchase of program supplies and food; occasionally travel within Missouri and Illinois surrounding areas. Travel required >40%.
- Scheduling flexibility is required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Education, Education, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.
