Overview:

The Center for Earth Leadership trains, empowers, and supports individuals to be local agents of change in building a sustainable local culture. The Center, with its office in downtown Portland, has a regular staff of four, plus volunteers who assist in program delivery.

To provide ongoing support for parent-agents working at school, the Center operates an ongoing Portland Eco-School Network (ESN).  During school year 2015-16, 37 parents were active in the Portland ESN, working as volunteers in 30 Portland elementary schools.  Following the Portland ESN model, the Center also supports an ESN in Beaverton, and is currently working with parents in West Linn to form an ESN in that community.

The Eco-School Network Coordinator  will work closely on a team of two with Co-Founder Jeanne Roy, the Director of the ESN Program, in our overall efforts to (1) recruit, train, and support parent agents of change, (2) sustain the health of the Portland and Beaverton ESNs, and (3) form other ESNs in the greater Portland area.

Position responsibilities:

Because the Center is a small non-profit, areas of responsibility may shift based on program needs.  Below is an indication of how time will be spent.

1. Eco-School Networks (50 to 75%).  The Coordinator will work with the Program Director in (1) organizing trainings for new ESN parents (2) creating new ESNs and (3) providing staff support and regular communications for the Portland, Beaverton, and West Linn Networks. The role will include responsibilities in the following areas:

a. Communicate with ESN members and prospective members by phone and emails.
b. Administer the website; prepare and distribute flyers and a quarterly newsletter.
c. Assist with trainings: prepare written materials, send email reminders, and keep track of participants in database.

2. Agent of Change Network.  Since 2006, over 1,000 adults have been trained by the Center in How to Be an Agent of Change in Your Circle of Influence.  To provide ongoing education, support, and inspiration, the Center invites graduates to participate in the Agent of Change Network, which holds periodic gatherings and field trips.  The Coordinator will assist in recruiting new participants, organizing trainings, and administering Network events.

3. Other.  On occasion, the Center plans workshops, field trips, or small events.  The Coordinator will assist with planning and logistics for these activities

Qualifications:

-Excellent interpersonal skills for working by voice with participants and volunteers.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to protect Earth.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet and database work.
