Overview:
Working collaboratively with Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LMNRA), the Great Basin Institute is recruiting one youth intern to assist with the implementation of interpretation and education programs for Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The funding for this position is for a youth (age 17-35) from a diverse background. This individual will gain valuable experience in environmental education, interpretation and outreach. The Intern will serve alongside park staff contributing to a wide variety of resource management, protection and visitor use projects. This position may require travel throughout the LMNRA, as well as service on weekends and most holidays.
Compensation:
Living Allowance: $4,500
AmeriCorps Education Award*: $1,515.55

Timeline:
Starts October 3, 2016 or upon availability for a 13-week appointment.
40 hours per week possibly including holidays and weekends.

Qualifications:
Must be between the ages of 17-35 and from a diverse background;
Motivated, self-starter who is detail oriented;
Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities;
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse public in a variety of forums;
Ability to speak English and Spanish conversationally, desirable but not required;
Some college education, desirable but not required;
Ability to work in harsh and rapidly changing environments;
Possess clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license; and
Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements: (1) U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status, (2) must be at least 17 years of age and a have received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve this before using education award), (3) eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education Award (limit of four in a lifetime, or equivalent of two full-time terms of service), and (4) pass National Sex Offender Public Registry (NSOPR) and federal/state criminal background checks.
