Overview:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following are duties that are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.

• Plan and deliver NGRREC environmental education and outreach programs to multiple audiences and stakeholders.
• Identify specific strategies to reach target groups including, but not limited to schools, the general public, home and landowners, retailers, businesses and tourism entities.
• Write grants to support NGRREC programming.
• Train, manage and supervise personnel as to ensure effective development and delivery of programs including RiverWatch, Environmental Education and Outreach.
• Maintain NGRREC Website pages related to programming areas.
• Develop informational and promotional materials such as newsletters, brochures, etc., regarding environmental issues and program activities.
• Plan, administer, deliver and coordinate youth development education programs targeted to science educators and youth utilizing a variety of delivery systems.
• Network and/or collaborate with local community, regional, state, national and international organizations, groups and cultural institutions to assess environmental education needs and develop programs to address those needs.
• Work with school districts and teachers to integrate environmental issues and materials into their existing activities and curricula.
• Manage and lead volunteer recruitment, training, support and recognition.
• Cultivate and solicit corporate sponsors to fund educational programming and events.
• Represent NGRREC at conferences and events each year.
• Work with scientists and researchers to develop scientifically-based and relevant education and outreach programming.
• Coordinate and manage the NGRREC Internship Program.
• Coordinate and manage the Swarovski Waterschool: USA and River Rx programs.
• Help produce resource and outreach tools and monitoring-related documents.
• Assist with development, scheduling and conducting workshops, as well as preparing equipment and resource materials for workshops.
• Establish and maintain a library of resource materials.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
SKILLS REQUIRED

• Highly motivated, creative, organized, experienced educator who wants to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, environmental science center environment.
• MS in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or other related fields required.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
• Experience in community-based outreach education with one to three years teaching in formal or non-formal environment is highly desired. Experience with a broad range of ages desirable.
• Grant writing plus strong oral and written communication skills.
• Requires frequent travel to various greater St. Louis area locations and throughout the state. Includes transporting material and equipment. 
• Must be willing to work weekends or evenings.
• Competency in using Microsoft Office Suite is desired.
• Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards is desired.
