Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in environmental education, education or related field is required.
  • Background or experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
    • leading and managing educational teams, traditional classroom teaching,
    • delivering environmental education at the PreK-12 level,
    • supervising volunteers and graduate students, program and curriculum development
    • Candidates must be committed to the mission and core values of Goshen College.

Skills:

  • Passion for high quality environmental education. 
  • Commitment to build and work collaboratively with a team.  
  • Ability to plan, delegate, and organize multiple work tasks.
  •  Self-motivated with good time-management practices. 
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, especially comfortable speaking to large groups and able to effectively write materials for a range of audiences. 
  • Able to lead professional workshops on environmental education topics.

About Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College:

Merry Lea is a nature sanctuary located near Wolf Lake, Indiana. Most of the habitats found in northeastern Indiana are present in the 1,189 acres of Merry Lea. Unique geological features such as peat bogs, a marl pit, and glacial gravel formations are present. Observable management practices include wetland, prairie, and savanna restorations, as well as sustainable agriculture. Merry Lea is located 28 miles from Goshen College and is home to the Sustainability and Environmental Education Department (SEED). SEED delivers unique undergraduate residential programs in agroecology and sustainability leadership. It also offers an 11-month master’s degree in environmental education.
