Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program development:

Creates and delivers exciting and scientifically based onsite and outreach programs (including tours) that engage all audience types to positively impact and understand the conservation needs of Arizona wildlife.  Ensures the guest experience is of outstanding quality, and that program content is appropriate for the audience.
Responsible for the successful development and implementation of interactive educational school programs aligned to core curriculum and science standards, both on and off site.  
Supervise, train and evaluate staff, interns and work with Volunteer Coordinator to do the same with volunteers ensuring the delivery of dynamic and informative programs.  Provides adequate training materials for their education and use. 
Researches program topics, develops content, writes scripts or outlines, acquires and organizes artifacts for program use while coordinating with other staff and volunteers. 
Stays informed of new trends and research in the conservation education field through personal research and professional contacts.

Staff and financial responsibilities:

Ensures a positive experience for the visitor through excellent customer service, resolves visitor concerns and complaints to the satisfaction of both the visitor and SWCC.  Develops methods for acquiring, monitoring and tracking visitor feedback.
Coordinates closely with Marketing and Events.

Supervises the Education Program Coordinator position.
Oversees the scheduling, fee payment, record keeping and assessment of the educational programming.  
Develops budget for the education department and keeps accurate records of expenses and income.  Presents annual report, including an annual education plan, to the SWCC Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Analyzes financial information in order to deliver quality programs within budgetary constraints.  Develops recommendations to enhance attendance and revenue figures. 
Researches, writes and secures grants as part of education program development.
Develops scheduling to ensure adequate coverage to meet visitor needs.
Works closely with Animal Care and Animal Health Departments to ensure accord on implementation of correct procedures, and to collaborate on improvements. 
Ensures all areas are clean, safe and ready to receive visitors each day.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, environmental sciences, education, parks and recreation, or a related field
3 years’ experience delivering environmental education and/or interpretive programs
2 years’ experience developing environmental education and/or interpretative programs
2 years’ program management or program coordination experience
Must have computer applications experience: MS Office Suite, volunteer management programs, and website 
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred qualifications:

Certified Interpreter Guide
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Animal handling experience

Physical requirements:

Must be in good health and able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb low fencing, bend, twist, and stretch
Must be able to lift/carry/pull 50 lbs
Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time and sit at the desk for long periods
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including dust, heat, and storms
Requires contact with wild and domestic animals, including animal dander, blood/excrement, and hair
Employees will encounter pests—insects, snakes and rodents
