Overview:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Guide the growth and development of the center’s complete range of educational programming: school, public, camp, college, adult, and more.
- Manage and motivate a staff of full-time, part-time, and seasonal members of the Department of Education.
- Evaluate the Center’s programming with an eye to adjusting the mix to continue our success.
- Play a key role in assisting in marketing efforts to attract new audiences.
- Guide the growth and development of Nature Rx, a new collaboration between the health and environmental sectors
- Manage several programs directly, e.g. teacher training and college-level teaching.
- Develop and manage the department’s budget.
- Represent the education department at senior-level staff meetings, all-staff meetings, and Board of Trustee meetings.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in education, environmental/science education or outdoor education.
- At least two years’ experience in a leadership position at a comparable education institution.
- Exceptional writing, speaking, and teaching skills
- Must pass background checks and complete all requirements mandated by the state.
Expected Competencies:
- Significant experience in providing diverse educational programming in a variety of settings, including college-level instruction, pre-K-12 schools, teacher training, and the public arena.
- Desire and ability to engage youth in learning experiences using developmentally appropriate pedagogy and group management techniques.
- An understanding of childhood development, including stages of growth, and how social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs intersect with learning.
- Experience leading workshops and presenting lectures in professional settings.
- Experience in program design and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability in leading a staff, including hiring, development, and evaluation.
- Experience in leading and sustaining regional collaborative efforts involving multiple stakeholders.
- Proven track record in writing, procuring, managing, and reporting on grants.
- Experience in successfully creating, managing, and meeting budgets.
- Mastery of the full suite of Microsoft computer programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
