Full-time

Overview:

The National Center for Science Education (NCSE) is seeking a remote curriculum specialist to work with our Supporting Teachers program, which focuses on providing teachers the tools and skills they need to help students overcome misconceptions and misinformation about climate change, evolution, and the nature of science.

NCSE is in the process of testing three sets of lessons covering the topics of nature of science, evolution, and climate change. Each lesson set is designed to help students overcome common misconceptions about these areas of science through direct engagement with evidence. The lessons are designed to cover all relevant NGSS learning objectives to be easily incorporated into an NGSS-aligned curriculum. Our goal is to provide teachers who may be inexperienced or feel uncomfortable teaching the topics with high-quality, easy-to-use lessons. The lessons are currently being field-tested by 30 teachers across the country with ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of the lessons on student understanding and teacher confidence.

We seek a curriculum specialist to help with ongoing revisions to the lessons in response to feedback from teachers, as well as the development of additional resources, adaptation of the lessons for different grade levels, locations, and use in different courses (i.e., in biology vs. earth science or chemistry classes). Eventually, the curriculum specialist will also be involved in developing new sets of lessons as the program grows.

Experience in teaching all three topics is highly preferred, but content expertise in climate change is essential.

All work will be done virtually, but in close collaboration with the NCSE Director of Teacher Support and considerable interaction with teachers across the U.S.
