Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to work with the
Volunteer Coordinator and other full time staff to oversee the teen program, the
Discovery Guide Leaders. The Coordinator will help create a welcoming and
collaborative environment, prepare and assist in the delivery of youth leadership
training, teach science content, and act as a mentor to teen participants.
You have experience engaging teens and a commitment to youth development in
STEM fields. You have an enthusiasm for learning, interest in conservation science,
and enjoy communicating your passions to others. You are creative, dependable,
capable of taking initiative as well as working as part of a team. You are committed
to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, are encouraging with others,
and able to communicate effectively and appropriately with teens.

Responsibilities
As a YE Coordinator you will...
● Prepare, and deliver youth leadership training (professional development,
public speaking, and science content) to Discovery Guide Leaders (our
volunteer teen program).
● Serve as a mentor and role-model to program youth.
● Provide regular evaluation and feedback for Discovery Guide Leaders.
● Create a welcoming, collaborative environment for youth from diverse
socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
● Facilitate science experiments, art projects, games, and explorations around
the zoo
● Support the visitor experience by delivering Sea Lion Training Narration when
needed.
● Lead tours on Fridays as needed.
● Maintain weekly schedules, collect relevant data, support organization of

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
● High School diploma or GED
● 3 years experience working with youth ages 14-20

Preferred Qualifications
● Currently enrolled in or recently completed a college degree program in a
relevant field of study, such as, Education, Animal Science, Environmental
Science, Biology, Ecology, etc.
● Teaching experience in formal or informal settings
