Overview:

The Confluence AmeriCorps program serves diverse communities in the Portland region, by engaging 22 individual positions that partner with schools, community organizations or government agencies to address critical environmental and social justice issues in the areas of healthy watersheds, energy and resource conservation, environmental education, environmental health and garden/farm education. (80%)

Confluence encourages the continued professional and personal growth of Members by providing opportunities in leadership development activities. Confluence provides trainings through its Leadership Development Program such as Volunteer Management; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Meeting Facilitation and Public Speaking. Our goal is to build future leadership so that Confluence AmeriCorps Members will be the leaders shaping our communities long after their year with AmeriCorps is over. (20%)

Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):

  • Serve an 11-month AmeriCorps term on a project that focuses on Restoration, Conservation, Healthy Watersheds or Garden Based Education. (see individual position descriptions at http://www.confluencecenter.org/
  • Complete and submit all necessary Confluence/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Abide by Confluence and AmeriCorps program policies.
  • Attend and complete all Confluence/AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, training's, team meetings and national service days.

Position Requirements

  • Experience, interest, and a sense of curiosity regarding equity, diversity, and/or inclusion.
  • Desire to promote environmental stewardship to underserved communities.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness/openness to learn about and discuss racial equity and social justice issues.
  • Ability to serve as part of a diverse team.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and dependability.
  • AmeriCorps Members must be: 18 years of age or older; U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident; able to commit to the full term of service; able to successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check.
  • Familiarity with low-income communities and/or communities of color.
  • Computer skills
  • Good Communication skills
  • Experience working with and organizing volunteers.
  • Ability to serve independently.
