Overview:

The Community Programs AmeriCorps will be an essential member of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s team. This person will improve the quality of KTMB’s volunteer program including recruiting, training, managing, and retaining volunteers. This person will also help to maintain KTMB’s volunteer registration and management database. They will provide outreach to the community in the Truckee Meadows to increase volunteerism, organizational support, and awareness of our natural resources. Lastly, the Community Programs AmeriCorps will assist the Community Educator in implementing KTMB’s adult education program and maintaining KTMB’s database of community recycling resources, in addition to acting as a KTMB representative during community events

KTMB is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a more sustainable and beautiful region through waste reduction, education and active community involvement. For over 30 years, KTMB has been dedicated to the beautification of the Truckee Meadows, advocacy for a cleaner community and region, massive volunteer cleanup efforts, and education that inspires action.

Service Location: Reno, NV

Timeline for Service: September 8, 2020 - August 13, 2021

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement volunteer training protocols, assist with volunteer management for KTMB’s programs, and manage volunteer database;
  • Recruit volunteers and help coordinate KTMB programs, projects and events;
  • Plan volunteer appreciation events throughout the year;
  • Organize service learning opportunities for schools and community groups;
  • Improve volunteer recruitment, training, management, and recognition program;
  • Maintain and update KTMB’s Recycling Guide database of community recycling resources;
  • Assist in enhancement of KTMB’s Adult presentation as well as in assist giving presentations when needed;
  • Maintain and develop current relationships with community members;
  • Assist with other KTMB programs such as the Sensory Garden, Youth Education efforts, and other duties as assigned.

  • Passionate commitment to KTMB’s mission and vision;
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Exceptional writing skills;
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
  • Experience working with volunteers;
  • Preferred: experience in volunteer recruitment and management;
  • Preferred: experience with event planning;
  • Preferred: experience working in a park or outdoor setting performing community beautification or conservation work;
  • Preferred: Reading, writing and speaking competency in Spanish language.

Compensation Information:

In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $14,279 for the year, health benefits during their service and have the option of receiving a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,195.
