Overview:
Location: Brevard or Salisbury, NC (with periodic travel across the state)

goals, most closely alongside and in coordination with the MS Development Officer;

Core Responsibilities:
Serve the organization’s growing need to focus on communications, marketing and outreach with its core constituencies across a growing geographic region of the Carolinas (with programming in WNC,
Piedmont NC, Upstate SC and soon Coastal NC);
Creation and implementation of an annual marketing and communications plan, as directed by the MS strategic plan, in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Development and Communications committee of the BOD;
Lead responsibility for the management and coordination of all social media, the MS websites and all MS design-related work with responsibility over internal and external use of the MS brand;
Be the organization’s point person for all events (led by or on behalf of MS) to include assisting board members/advisory councils as well as Program Directors with the facilitation of outreach in the communities they serve (ex: small events, booths, school system outreach, etc.);
Primary reporting to the Executive Director with periodic reporting to the Development and
Communications committee of the MS BOD.
Education Requirements:
Applicant must have at a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, preferably with prior
school/professional experience in the field of marketing, communications, administration, business management and/or another related field; equivalent work experience will be given consideration

Muddy Sneakers is a NC-based 501(c)3 non-profit, environmental education organization with offices in Brevard and
Salisbury, North Carolina. The organization works with fifth grade students, leading them on a minimum of six (and as
many as ten) full day, outdoor learning expeditions during the regular school year. Each Learning Expedition focuses on
a different key science topic from the NC Standard Course of Study while prioritizing small group instruction. Field site
locations are chosen with an eye towards educating students on conservation with priority given to those closest to
schools that offer diverse exposure to a community’s nearby publicly and privately protected lands. In 2017-18, Muddy
Sneakers is partnering with 39 schools across 14 NC and SC school districts including Transylvania, Henderson,
Asheville City, Buncombe McDowell, Polk, Rutherford, Haywood, Cherokee, Rowan, Stanly, Montgomery, Robeson as
well as a pilot program in Greenville County, SC. From June to August, Muddy Sneakers also offers Camp Muddy
Sneakers, a weeklong day camp, in four WNC counties for rising 1st – 8 th grade students.
