Overview:
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Coastal Management is accepting applications for the position of Coastal Wetland Water Quality Technician at the Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve (OWC NERR) in Huron along Ohio's Lake Erie shore.
The Coastal Wetland Water Quality Technician will provide laboratory and field support for implementation of the NERRS System-wide Monitoring Program (SWMP) at OWC NERR. Job duties include field collection and laboratory analysis of water samples, and calibration and maintenance of environmental monitoring equipment. This is a grant-funded position compensated at the rate of $15.76/hour (State Classification: Natural Resources Technician 1) with a projected term from March – late October 2020. Average 25-30 hours per week. Preferred qualifications: proficiency with standard laboratory methods for the analysis of common water quality nutrients, ions, and metals (e.g., BS in Chemistry or Chemistry minor with experience beyond laboratory coursework); ability to apply standardized protocols for water quality and meteorological monitoring; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel; basic knowledge of coastal wetland ecology and identification of plants and wildlife; strong comfort level working in and on water; boating safety and first aid/CPR.
A valid driver's license is required.
