Mass Audubon is seeking a program coordinator to join a collaborative team engaged in a dynamic initiative to effectively communicate the impacts of climate change to the people of Massachusetts and inspire them to take action. The Climate Change Program Coordinator is a key staff position that will implement and refine Mass Audubon’s Climate Literacy strategy as outlined in our Strategic Plan, facilitate ongoing sharing of best practices in climate change education among our wildlife sanctuaries and support community-based advocacy efforts that promote climate change solutions and action. S/he will focus Mass Audubon’s climate change message through consultation on education programs, public outreach and engagement strategies, and member communications.

Responsibilities

• Provide research based expertise, consultation, and resources on climate change and its impacts, clean energy, community based solutions and sustainability across the entire organization, including wildlife sanctuaries/education centers, marketing, science, and advocacy.
• Guide, support and facilitate the ongoing development of sanctuaries as Climate Action Centers—local hubs to improve climate literacy and civic engagement around relevant issues, coordinating with Advocacy on priority issues and consistency on Mass Audubon’s public policy positions.
• Serve as a resource for members, staff, and volunteers on climate science, effects of climate change on Massachusetts’ habitats and wildlife, and climate change solutions.
• Support and advocate for increased state resources to implement science curricula and professional development programs that address climate change and renewable energy.
• Develop climate adaptation and community resilience training curricula for municipal officials in collaboration with Mass Audubon’s Shaping the Future of Your Community Program, with a goal of assisting communities to improve local land, water, and energy management and promote sustainability and resiliency for people and nature.
• Sustain and enhance strategic partnerships with other climate change education resource centers in New England and nationally and with the Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program.

Qualifications

We are looking for a dedicated, motivated and energetic self-starter that is able to work both independently and as a productive team member. To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biological, atmospheric or earth science, environmental science, environmental education or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental education, outreach and communications.
• Strong background in climate change, climate science, sustainability, renewable energy, impacts of climate change, and/or related topics.
• Strong experience working across disciplines and departments.
• Ability to relate to a diverse range of perspectives and stakeholders and facilitate inclusive working environments.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills using a variety of media and presentation techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage a variety of tasks in a complex organization.
• Requires 2 years of project/program management experience.
• Experience in grant writing and management.
• Ability to work both independently and as a collaborator on diverse teams.
• Requires successful completion of a CORI and SORI.
