Essential Functions:
Volunteer Management:
- Support the development, administration and evaluation of volunteer-led camps.
- Provide a single point of contact for communication providing ongoing direction, support and guidance for volunteers of council supported volunteer-led day, twilight and community camps.
- Confer with volunteers to resolve conflicts and grievances and to promote cooperation and interest.
- Coordinate and attend retreats, training and programs to support a 2,500 member volunteer base of more than 40 day, twilight and community day camps throughout the Council.
- In collaboration with Troop Program Managers, train, support and/or potentially place volunteers involved in council supported volunteer-led day, twilight and community camp programs or other Volunteer Led camping opportunities as needed.
- Direct the Day, Twilight or Community Director application, training and evaluation process.
- Coordinate training and onboarding for new Day, Twilight or Community Camp Directors.
- Provide procedure manuals and coordinate training for volunteers responsible for overseeing volunteer-led camps to ensure all camps will offer high quality programs to girls and maintain high standards of health, safety and security in accordance with council, Girl Scouts USA, and American Camp Association guidelines and policies.
- Conduct on-site visits during the summer months to evaluate all aspects of volunteer-led camps to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate.
- Support regional programming efforts in collaboration with Camp Programs & Properties and Volunteer Learning departments to assist volunteers who work with girls to implement quality outdoor experiences through Service Unit and Troop Camping.
- Participate in the American Camp Association to ensure that routine program accreditation occurs in conjunction with the camp Lyle McLeod Site Manager.
- Work with Marketing to publicize opportunities for volunteers and volunteer-led camps.
- Act as a Council representative to build collaboration with other outdoor education programs and properties offering quality outdoor program opportunities to GSWW members.
Administrative Functions:
- Collaborate to develop and manage assigned program budgets and assist with the identification of potential funding sources for programming. Forecast participation levels and develop fee structures as appropriate to offset program costs.
- Maintain and analyze statistical information for assigned programs and develop reports.
- Provide support to department and council projects approved by supervisor.
- Attend and participate in monthly team calls, regular monthly check-ins and other departmental meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least five years’ experience managing camp programs and/or prior experience as volunteer coordinator for public or nonprofit employer; or, equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated success in working with volunteers, leading and managing large teams of 100+ diverse volunteers
- Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills to ensure effective interaction with individuals at all levels and backgrounds
- Strong working knowledge of outdoor education philosophies, including experiential education methods
- Excellent written, oral and public speaking communication skills
- Demonstrated success in designing and facilitating adult learning experiences and implementing programming for large-scale audiences across extensive geography
- Experience in development and administration of budgets, complex scheduling, and program evaluation
- Demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of girls, volunteers and staff
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and database programs- Salesforce preferred
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative and maintain confidentiality
- Prior experience with Girl Scouts programming and terminology preferred.
- Availability to work varied hours including nights and weekends as necessary to accommodate the requirements of the job
- Valid Washington State driver's license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance or the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across widespread regional geography in the designated Girl Scouts of Western Washington territories
- Satisfactory results from criminal background search
- Maintain membership in Girl Scouts of the United States of America
NOTE: Due to the nature of the primary function of this position- supporting our volunteer-led summer camps- vacation time may not be requested during the months of June, July, or August.
