Overview:
Join our team of enthusiastic staff to teach campers ages 4.5-12 about the nature and wildlife of Massachusetts. Lead Counselors will: provide guidance, instruction and supervision for other counselors and for campers in accordance with Mass Audubon’s educational goals, American Camp Association standards, and the state’s health and safety regulations; Work with our Camp Director and camp team to ensure that age appropriate lessons and hands-on activities are planned, prepared, and conducted.
Position is scheduled beginning the week of June 13 through August 19. Hourly salary starting at $15.50/hr, based on experience and position requirements. Paid training is provided. As temporary seasonal employees, staff are paid for only the scheduled hours worked, and may be asked to take unpaid leave depending on camp enrollment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Take an active lead role to ensure that the camp's program meets educational goals and ACA standards;
- Work with Camp Director and camp team to plan, develop, and teach a variety of outdoor and hands-on activities, games, crafts and songs;
- Co-lead campers, ages 4.5 through 12 in exploring fields, forests and marsh, and hiking trails in small groups;
- Supervise camper health and safety, proactively communicate with parents and staff, and provide leadership for campers and teen counselors in training;
- Participate in mandated camp training and utilize learning including: natural history, communication, group management and teaching techniques specific to our camp;.
- Assume additional related duties as requested

Must Haves:
- Must be at least 20 years old;
- Have at least two seasons experience supervising children;
- Must enjoy being with children and convey that enthusiasm;
- Ideal candidates are patient, friendly, adaptable, and have experience creating an inclusive environment for people of all abilities and backgrounds;
- Have the ability to lead walks on rough terrain, and develop and implement nature-based games, crafts, explorations and activities;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication with adults
- Current certification in Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid required;
- Helpful to have earned or be studying toward a degree in education, psychology, environmental education or life/earth sciences, or have equivalent work experience.
